Purpose
This glossary explains common nonprofit technology terms in simple language for nonprofit teams, administrators, developers, support teams, and new users.

- Acknowledgement Email
- A message sent to thank a donor, volunteer, attendee, or supporter after they complete an action such as donating, registering for an event, or signing up.
- Admin User
- A user with higher-level permissions who can manage platform settings, users, data, billing, and system configuration.
- API
- A connection method that allows two software systems to communicate and exchange data.
- Automation
- A rule-based process that performs an action automatically, such as sending a thank-you email after a donation or creating a task after an event registration.

- Board Management
- Tools used to manage board members, meetings, agendas, minutes, documents, votes, governance tasks, and board communication.
- Bounce
- An email that could not be delivered to the recipient's inbox.
- Bulk Email
- An email sent to a large group of contacts, such as newsletters, campaign updates, donor appeals, or event announcements.

- Campaign
- A focused fundraising, awareness, event, or outreach effort with a specific goal, audience, timeline, and message.
- Case Management
- A system used to track services, support needs, client interactions, care plans, notes, outcomes, and follow-ups for individuals or families.
- Checklist
- A reusable list of tasks used to manage repeatable workflows such as event planning, volunteer onboarding, campaign launch, or donor follow-up.
- CRM
- Customer Relationship Management. For nonprofits, this is a system used to manage donors, volunteers, members, supporters, sponsors, partners, and community contacts.
- Custom Field
- A user-defined field that captures information specific to an organization's workflow.

- Dashboard
- A visual overview of important activity, metrics, tasks, and alerts across the platform.
- Data Migration
- The process of moving data from one system, spreadsheet, or database into a new software platform.
- Digital Asset
- A file or media item such as a logo, image, PDF, report, flyer, document, or campaign graphic.
- Donation Page
- A public page where supporters can give money to an organization, campaign, program, or event.
- Donor
- A person, company, or organization that gives money, services, or resources to a nonprofit.
- Donor Management
- Tools used to track donor profiles, giving history, receipts, follow-ups, campaigns, recurring donations, and donor engagement.

- Email Credit
- A usage-based unit used to send marketing or bulk emails through the platform.
- Email Marketing
- Sending newsletters, appeals, announcements, updates, or engagement emails to a selected audience.
- Event Registration
- The process of collecting attendee information for an event, workshop, fundraiser, volunteer activity, or training.
- External Service Provider
- A third-party service used by the platform, such as hosting, email delivery, SMS, payment processing, analytics, or file storage.

- Form Builder

- Fundraising Campaign
- A campaign created to raise money for a nonprofit, program, project, emergency need, or event.

- Grant Tracking

- Internal Note

- A focused public webpage created for a campaign, event, donation request, volunteer signup, program promotion, or newsletter signup.
- Lapsed Donor
- A donor who gave in the past but has not donated again within a defined period.

- A searchable listing of members, organizations, contacts, or community participants that may be public or private.
- Member Management
- Tools used to manage members, renewals, profiles, communication, directories, access, and engagement.
- Migration Template
- A formatted spreadsheet or file used to prepare data for import into a new system.

- Newsletter
- A recurring email sent to supporters, donors, volunteers, members, or subscribers with updates and announcements.
- NPS
- Net Promoter Score. A survey method used to measure satisfaction by asking how likely someone is to recommend the organization, event, or service.

- Organization Profile
- The main account profile for a nonprofit, including name, branding, contact details, address, website, and settings.
- Owner
- The team member responsible for managing a record, relationship, task, campaign, program, event, or workspace.

- Payment Processor
- A service that processes online payments, donations, subscriptions, invoices, and event transactions. Examples include Stripe and Paddle.
- Permission
- A rule that controls what a user can view, create, edit, delete, export, or manage.
- Pledge
- A donor commitment to give a certain amount in the future.
- Program
- An organized nonprofit initiative or service area, such as food assistance, youth mentoring, education, wellness, or community outreach.
- Program Management
- Tools used to manage program details, staff, volunteers, donors, sponsors, files, tasks, events, reports, and outcomes.

- Recurring Donation
- A donation that repeats on a schedule, such as monthly, quarterly, or annually.
- Report
- A summary of data used to understand performance, activity, progress, outcomes, or operational status.
- Role-Based Access
- A permission model where users receive access based on their role, such as owner, admin, staff, manager, or viewer.

- SMS Credit
- A usage-based unit used to send text messages through the platform.
- Sponsor
- A person, company, or organization that supports a nonprofit, campaign, event, or program financially or through services.
- Subdomain
- A custom web address assigned to an organization, such as yourorganization.moregoodtogether.com.
- Subscriber
- A person who has signed up to receive email updates, newsletters, or other communications.

- Task
- An action item assigned to a person or team, usually with a due date, priority, status, and related record.
- Transactional Email
- An automated email sent because of a user action, such as email verification, password reset, donation receipt, event confirmation, or account notification.

- A person with access to the platform.
- User Role
- The assigned permission level for a user, such as owner, admin, staff, volunteer coordinator, fundraising manager, program manager, or viewer.

- Volunteer Hours
- The amount of time a volunteer contributes to events, programs, campaigns, assignments, or other activities.
- Volunteer Management
- Tools used to manage volunteer profiles, interests, availability, assignments, onboarding, training, communication, and hours.

- A method that sends data from one system to another when an event happens, such as a new donation, form submission, or event registration.
- Widget
- An embeddable tool that can be placed on a website, such as a donation form, signup form, event registration form, or newsletter subscription form.
- Workflow
- A sequence of steps used to complete a process, such as onboarding a volunteer, launching a campaign, planning an event, or following up with donors.
- Workspace
- A shared area where team members manage tasks, files, notes, checklists, and activity for a program, campaign, event, or internal project.
